Sobel filter

Introduction.

Used instruments: filter Sobel filter..

Objects of examination: halftone image (Monochrome.jpeg).

Task: to mark small defects on the half-hue image and to accent small inhomogeneities in the even gray field.
 
NOTE: Tutorial does not contain the information on all the possibilities of the application. Here the optimal way of solving the task set is offered.
 
 

Step 1. Launch of the application

Launch the Altami Studio application. In order to launch the application, use the Altami Studio shortcut at the workbench or the menu item StartProgramsAltami LtdAltami Studio 3.0. Besides, the application can be launched from the folder where the application was installed (usually it is C:\Program Files\Altami Ltd\Altami Studio 3.0\).
 
 

Step 2. Opening the file

In Altami Studio application open the file with the image, in order to do that use the menu item FileOpen and select the Monochrome.jpeg. It is in Tutorials\Pictures folder which is in the main folder of the application. Click the Open button. The following image shall appear in the application window:

Step 3. Adding the Sobel transformation filter to the document

In order to use the Sobel filter, call the Filters panel through the menu FiltersFilters.

Then select in the menu item FiltersGray transformationsSobel.

Step 4. Setting the Sobel filter

By selecting the Sobel filter at the Filters panel in its lower part there appears a window with the settings of this filter. Here you can turn on and turn off the filter, having put and having put away respectively the tick in the check box in front of the enabled parameter.

Indicate the value of the size parameter as 5. Leave the values of orderX, orderY parameters as 1 by default.
